Analysis of L641 / L642 SNPs

SUMMARY OF SNP (JULY, 2012)

Classification of SNP: Private. L641 is is the son DF21 and L642 is currently redundant with L641 (only one submission has tested positive to date). Y-Search query only found no testing candidate above a 70 % fingerprint match, so these SNPs could be very narrow in scope. Only testing candidates that have tested positive for DF21 should be tested since these SNPs are descendants of DF21.

Estimated Breadth of SNP (speculative estimate of positive submissions) = 5 = 1 x 98 % (12 of 12) + 0 x 95 % (11 of 12) + 0 x 92 % (10 of 12) + 0 x 90 % (9 of 12) + 0 x 85 % (8 of 12) + 0 x 50 % (7 of 12) + 6 x 10 % (6 of 12) + 64 x 5 % (5 of 12). These optimisticly high percentages at low fingerprint matches are based of the rare marker value of 492 <= 11 appearing at lower matches which would radically alter the L641 fingerprint.

Scope of testing within fingerprint: - Only one has tested positive via the Walk the Y test. No testing candidates were found that were over 70 % match of L641 fingerprint. With a very extensive fingerprint of twelve markers based on only one positive submission, many of the markers in the current L641 fingerprint are probably mutations that are post L641 in scope. The L641 fingerprint includes a very rare marker value of 570 <= 13 which may be key marker for L641. Only ten of 5,200 L21 submissions have this rare marker value and these ten submissions also track 492 <= 11 and 464a <= 14 as well. There are four 50 % matches that include this rare marker value combination which could dramtically alter the L641 fingerprint. There are also four below 50 % matches that have the rare 570 <= 13 marker value that could test positive as well.

Dominant Surname (positive): Simmons (1).

Year that SNPs were discovered: July, 2011.

Source of SNP: FTDNA WTY - Simmons, FTDNA 26411, Y-Search - P2CMV.

Number of Positive Tests: Only one known positive to date.

Number of Negative Broad Tests: Around twenty-one submissions have been tested below the 50 % match of L641 fingerprint (most from WTY submissions).

Number of Negative Tests within Fingerprint (over 50 % match): None.

Possible Untested Candidates (over 50 % match): Twelve found.

Pending Tests (within Fingerprint): None known.

TRENDS OF TESTING CANDIDATES

Note that the number of known testing candidates does not have the typical trend for L21 SNPs where the number of testing candidates declines down to 70 % matches and then sees a sharp rise as non-L641 submissions dominate the under 50 % matches. There are no matches found above 60 % other than the original WTY testing candidate. This suggests that the WTY submission is extremely isolated from all other L21 submissions and that the fingerprint could be very different based on future testing results. None of the transitional fingerprint matches (between 50 % and 60 % matches) have not been tested to date.

ISOGG Status - Prove genetic and surname diversity of L641

L641 does not satisfy the 15 % genetic diversity requirement or the surname diversity requirement for inclusion on the ISOGG haplotree. Two submissions of L641 must have at least a genetic distance of 10 (15 % x 67 markers = 10). If the marker value 570 <= 13 is truly a key marker of L641, L641 would easily qualify both genetic and surname diversity requirements of ISOGG rules.

DNA FINGERPRINTS & SIGNATURES

L641 fingerprint (L21 Off Modal Mutations):

Markers 1 to 37: 385b <= 12, 439 <= 11, 458 >= 18, 464a <= 14, 460 <= 10, GATA-H4 >= 12, 456 <= 15, 576 <= 17 and 570 <= 13 (9 mutations).

Markers 38 to 67: 578 >= 10, 557 >= 17, and 492 <= 11 (3 mutations).

Note: The above L641 is very speculative in nature, it is believed that 570 <= 13 is a very marker value of teh L641 fingerprint.

L641 signature (L21 Off Modal Mutations): None defined to date.
