There is much evidence that John and Catherine Foster were also the parents of another son, Noah Shelton Foster (still not well established or proven to date).  According to Bill Hensley, his ancestor, Noah Shelton Foster was born on September 20, 1852 in either Alabama or Kentucky and that Noah was a son of John Foster (born Tennessee) and Mary Shelton (born Virginia).  First, it is known that Catherine Shelton, daughter of John and Catherine Shelton, married John Foster (born 1811 in Virginia).  Although the birthplace of John Foster is not correct, it is very close (specially since this line lived on the Virginia / Tennessee border).  Also, Bill Hensley has John’s wife as being Mary Shelton, not Catherine Shelton.  However, both are Shelton as a maiden name and there is no Mary Shelton as a daughter of John and Catherine Shelton, therefore, Mary or Catherine could be a middle name.  The name Noah Shelton Foster is another strong connection because Catherine Shelton did have a brother named Noah Shelton.  Bill Hensley states that Noah Foster was born in either Alabama or Kentucky.  Since Noah’s parents were known to have been living in Jackson County, Alabama in 1850, this futher strengthens this connection.

Unfortunately, John and Mary/Catherine Foster have not been located in the 1860 or 1870 censuses, which would definitely tie these lines together.  Additionally, nothing has been uncovered on the seven brothers and sisters of Noah Foster which would obviously, strengthen this connection.  Although this connection is obviously not well established, the author feels very strong that this connection will eventually be well proven.  However, the surnames of Foster and Shelton are quite common, so further research should be conducted before accepting this connection.  Therefore, John and Catherine Shelton were probably the parents of an eighth child:

  Noah Shelton Foster (1.6.8), b.September 20, 1852, Alabama

It is not known where John and Catherine Foster lived after 1850  The dates and places of their deaths are not currently known.
