WILLIAM POTTER (15.1.2) is the son of Johnathan Potter and Eliza (Pace) Potter.  William was born on February 10, 1836 in Alabama.  In 1857, William Potter married Ruth Adeline Morris.  Ruth was born on August 18, 1832 in Tennessee and is the daughter of Mary Morris.  From 1860 to 1910, William and Ruth Potter were living in Jackson County, Alabama.  Rutha’s mother, Mary Morris, was living with them.  William and Ruth Potter were the parents of at least six children:

  Jonathan Samuel Potter, b. 1859, Alabama
  Reuben Talley Potter (15.1.2.3), b. April 23, 1859, Jackson County, Alabama

William Potter died on December 24, 1910 and was buried in the Harmony Cemetery in Jackson County, Alabama.  Ruth (Morris) Potter died on February 26, 1916 and was buried in the Harmony Cemetery in Jackson County, Alabama.  On February 13, 1876, Mary Potter married Noah Benton Shelton.  For additional information on the descendants of Noah and Mary Shelton, see the sketch of Noah Benton Shelton (1.5.11).  Jonathan Potter married Sarah Temperance Evans.  Jonathan Potter died in March, 1893 and was buried in the Shelton Cemetery in Jackson County, Alabama.  Francis Potter married Cenia Mirriah Rounsavall (born 1865).  Francis Potter died on May 6, 1912 and Cenia (Rounsavall) Potter died in 1941.

REUBEN TALLEY POTTER (15.1.2.3) is the son of William Potter and Ruth Adeline (Morris) Potter.  Reuben was born on April 23, 1859 in Jackson County, Alabama.  Reuben Potter married Mary Emiline Mashburn (born August 4, 1872).  Reuben and Mary Potter were the parents of four children:

  William Levi Potter, b. September 30, 1889
  Frank Potter, b. March 27, 1891
  Charlie Potter, b. January 19, 1893
  Albert Potter, b. April 20, 1894

Reuben Potter died on February 1, 1934.  Mary (Mashburn) Potter died on December 1, 1948 and was buried in the Oaklawn Cemetery in DeValls Bluff, Arkansas.  William L. Potter died as an infant on January 1, 1890 and was buried in the Center Point Cemetery in Hazen, Arkansas.  Frank Potter died on September 1, 1964.  Charlie Potter died on September 9, 1978.  Albert Potter died as a child on November 3, 1905 in and was buried in the Tomberlin Cemetery in Coy, Arkansas.

CHARLIE MANNING (15.1.2.5.2) is the son of Samuel Manning and Rebecca (Potter) Manning.  Charlie was born on March 20, 1890 in Alabama.  On January 30, 1909, Charlie Manning married Allie Venable (born October 9, 1891) and they are the parents of six children:

Cynthia (Potter) Bynum died on July 13, 1896.  In 1903, Isaac Bynum married a second time to Nancy Josephine Cunningham (born 1865 in Tennessee).  In 1910, Isaac and Nancy Bynum were living in Jackson County, Alabama.  In 1920, Isaac and Nancy Bynum were living with their son, Charles Bynum, in Jackson County, Alabama.  Isaac Newton Bynum died on September 11, 1924.  Both were buried in the Bynum Cemetery in Maynard’s Cove.  Jasper Talley Bynum died on December 30, 1944.  On July 11, 1884, Rebecca Bynum married Isaac T. Cook (born October 29, 1858).  Isaac T. Cook died on September 16, 1945 and Rebecca (Bynum) Cook died on November 22, 1950.  Samuel Bynum married Sophronia Elizabeth Proctor.  Elizabeth was the daughter of Z. M. Proctor and Jane (Bynum) Proctor.  Samuel and Elizabeth had one child that died young.  Samuel Bynum died on November 20, 1900.  In 1904, John Bynum married Pearl Hartzog (born February 22, 1887).  John Newton Bynum died on February 18, 1967.  Julia Bynum married McDonald Hall.  For additional information on the descendants of McDonald and Julia Hall, see the sketch of McDonald Hall (15.3.7.2).  Emily Bynum married a Mr. Chesser.

ELIZABETH POTTER (15.1.5) is the daughter of Johnathan Potter and Eliza (Pace) Potter.  Betsy was born on November 22, 1841 in Alabama.  On September 6, 1860, Betsy Potter married Hiram Glass Foster.  Hiram was born on October 1, 1838 and is the son of Anthony Wayne Foster and Mary (Bynum) Foster.  Hiram and Betsy Foster were the parents of three children:

  Eliza Foster, b. October 1, 1864
  Mary Ellen Foster (15.1.5.2), b. November 22, 1865
  Julia Adkins Foster (15.1.5.3), b. December 7, 1874

Hiram Foster died on March 26, 1912 and Betsy (Potter) Foster died on November 13, 1923.  Eliza Foster first married George Schillinger and they had three children:  -  George Schillinger, Jr., d. 1930,  -  Bertha Schillinger,  -  Myrtle Schillinger, d. 1940.  George Shillinger, Sr. died and Eliza married a second time to Ludwig Mogg.  Ludwig and Eliza Mogg had one son:  -  Clarence Mogg, b. 1918.  Eliza (Foster) Mogg died on September 1, 1945.

MARY ELLEN FOSTER (15.1.5.2) is the daughter of Hiram Glass Foster and Elizabeth (Potter) Foster.  Mary was born on November 22, 1865.  On May 31, 1883, Mary Ellen Foster married Benjamin Frank Merchant (born February 7, 1852) and they were the parents of two children:

  William F. “Willie” Merchant, b. May 9, 1884
  Viola E. Merchant, b. January 22, 1886

Benjamin Merchant died on January 24, 1928 and Mary (Foster) Merchant died on April 9, 1934.  On July 22, 1907, Willie Merchant married Hattie Grey (born August 2, 1884) and they were the parents of three children:  -  Norma Merchant, b. May 12, 1908,  -  Arlene Merchant, b. January 16, 1911,  -  Richard Merchant, b. January 3, 1924.  In 1927, Norma Merchant married Fred Sandholm (born 1908) and they have one son:  -  Fred William Sandholm, b. 1928.  In January of 1932, Arlene Merchant married Cornelius Hilker (born January 30, 1908) and they have one son:  -  Richard Hilker, b. January 20, 1933.

Around 1907, Viola Merchant married Raymond Prettyman and they have two children:  -  Louise Prettyman, b. 1908,  -  Alice Prettyman, b. 1911.  Viola (Merchant) Prettyman died on December 15, 1918.

On December 17, 1917, Hazel Merchant married Oscar Pedersen and they have three children:  -  Charles Leroy Pedersen, b. October 12, 1919,  -  Jack Lewis Pedersen, b. October 11, 1921,  -  Robert Lee Pedersen, b. December 5, 1923.  On April 9, 1942, Charles Pedersen married Jane Milligan (born February 1, 1918) and they have two children:  -  Charles Leroy Pedersen, Jr., b. May 7, 1943,  -  Carolyn Lee Pedersen, b. January 17, 1945.

On November 25, 1916, Effie Merchant married Elmer S. Bowers (born September 10, 1894) and they have two children:  -  Donald Leroy Bowers, b. December 28, 1930,  -  Elmer S. Bowers, Jr.  Elmer and Effie Bowers live in Denver, Colorado.  Marion Merchant married Otto Pankan and they had one daughter:  -  Betty Pankan, b. and d. September 27, 1934.
