PACE FAMILY HISTORY  5-67

SUSANNAH PACE (14.4) is the daughter of William Pace and Mary Pace.  Susannah was born in 1781 in Virginia.  According to the marriage bond (Fluvanna County, Virginia) of Jackson Bellomy and Susanna Pace, Susannah Pace married Jackson Bellomy “shortly after December 24, 1800.”  Jackson was born probably in the late 1770s.  This bond was states that Susanna Pace was the daughter of William and Mary Pace.  Jackson and Susannah Bellomy were the parents of at least one son:

  Mary Elizabeth Bellomy (14.4.1), b. 1803, Virginia
  William Bellomy (14.4.2), b. 1805, Virginia

The connection between Mary Elizabeth Bellomy and their parents, Jackson and Susannah Bellomy is only established by the ancestor chart of Janice (Gentry) Smith.  This connection is obviously very speculative in nature, but deserves inclusion because of the possible significant connection to the Pace line.  Until recently, the authors had found no proof that Jackson and Susannah Bellomy had a son named, William Bellomy (later the marriage bond sent in by William Bellomy which firmed up this connection).  It is known that William Bellomy married Malinda Wininger, daughter of David Wininger (32).  Because the connection between Susannah Pace and her son, William Bellomy, was not well proven until recently, it was originally decided to include their descendants under the sketch of Malinda Wininger (32.6) who, at the time, was definitely proven to be the daughter of David Wininger, a direct ancestor of the authors.

Susannah married a second time to Tarlton “Talton” Evans.  According to Walter Evans, Tarlton is the son of Emmanuel Evans and Elizabeth Evans.  Tarlton Evans’ brother, William Wilkerson Evans, married Susannah Pace’s sister, Elizabeth Pace (14.1).  Talton Evans is definitely proven to a son-in-law of William Pace, Sr. as stated in the 1815 Scott County, Virginia deed.  According to the 1820 census, Tarlton Evans was born before 1775.  In 1810, Tarlton Evans was living in Washington County, Virginia.  Tarlton Evans was listed in the 1815, 1818 and 1820 Property Tax Lists of Scott County, Virginia.  According to an 1857 deed, Tarlton Evans was the father of at least seven children:

Son - Unknown Given Name (14.4.3), b. ca. 1810, Virginia
  Lewis Evans (14.4.4), b. January 20, 1811, Virginia
  Elizabeth Evans (14.4.5), b. 1814, Virginia
  Claborn Evans (14.4.6), b. 1817, Virginia
  Susannah Evans
  Frances Evans
  Nancy Evans

Tarlton Evans died prior to 1824 when “Susannah Evans” was listed in personal property tax list of Scott County, Virginia.  Susannah Evans was list in personal property tax lists of Scott County, Virginia in 1824 and 1827.  From 1850 to 1860, Susan (Pace) Evans was living with her son, Lewis Evans in Jackson County, Alabama.  William Bellomy married Malinda Wininger.  For additional information on the descendants of William and Malinda Bellomy, see the sketch of Malinda Wininger (32.6).  Elizabeth Evans married Solomon Wininger.  For additional information on the descendants of Solomon and Elizabeth Wininger, see the sketch of Solomon Wininger (32.3).  Solomon Wininger’s sister, Malinda Wininger, married Elizabeth Evans’ half-brother, William Bellomy.  Frances Evans married Wiley J. Weaver.  Nancy Evans married James Hawkins.

SON OF TARLTON EVANS - Unknown Given Name (14.4.3) is the son of Tarlton Evans and Susannah (Pace) Evans.  This son was born around 1810 in Virginia.  Family tradition indicates that Mary Isabel Bynum married a Mr. Evans and had two daughters. Susanna Evans and Belinda (Malinda) Evans.  Mary was born in 1816 in Tennessee and is the daughter of James Bynum (born 1788 in North Carolina) and Susanna (Childress) Bynum (born 1792 in South Carolina).  The 1857 deed where Lewis Evans purchased land from other heirs of Tarlton Evans, shows heirs Jepee Easly and wife Susanah and Cyrus Wright and wife Malinda, both are said to be children of Mary Isabel Bynum who later married John Shelton, Jr. (1.4).  Since the 1857 deed clearly states that Susanna and Malinda Evans were clearly descendants of Tarlton Evans (believed to be granddaughters), this section has been added, as many descendants of Susanna and Malinda Evans are known.  According to the Ancestral File, Susanna and Malinda Evans were children of Lewis Evans which is a possibility.  However, detailed probate records fail to mention either Susanna or Malinda Evans as heirs.  Probate records did mention minor children living in Wood County, Texas, therefore, missing other two other daughters (with many children each), seems unlilkely to be omitted from probate records.  Family tradition states that Mary Isabel Bynum married this Mr. Evans and that they were the parents of two daughters:

  Susannah Evans (14.4.3.1), b. 1834, Alabama
Malinda “Belinda Syrene” Evans (14.4.3.2), b. January 15, 1835, Alabama

This son of Tarlton Evans must have died between 1834 (birth of his daughters) and 1842 (birth of Mary Isabel Bynum’s first child by John Shelton, Jr.  After the death of Mr. Evans, his widow, Mary Isabel (Bynum) Evans, married John Shelton, Jr. (1.4).
