ELIZABETH BROOKS (2.5) is the daughter of Jordan Brooks and Mary (Cruse) Brooks.  Elizabeth was born in 1790 in Edgefield County, South Carolina.  According to “Brooks Family History,” Elizabeth Brooks married “Joe Slaughter.”  Joel Slaughter was born in 1782 in North Carolina.  In 1835, Elizabeth is mentioned in her father’s will as “Elizabeth Slatter.”  In 1840, Joel Slaughter was enumerated in the census of Talbot County, Georgia.  Joel (born 1780 to 1790) is listed with his wife (born 1780 to 1790), one daughter (born 1820 to 1825) and one son (born 1825 to 1830).  In 1841, “Joel Slatter” was paid $38.16 from the estate of Elizabeth’s father, Jordan Brooks.  Joel and Elizabeth Slaughter were the parents of at least two children:

  Martha A. Slaughter, b. 1825
  Jordan Williamson Slaughter (2.5.2), b. October 10, 1829, Talbot Co., Georgia

In 1850, Joel and Elizabeth Slaughter were living in Stewart County, Georgia with their two children, Martha and Jordan.  Joel Slaughter died in 1855 as his son, Jordan, was made administrator of his estate on November 5, 1855.  In 1860, Elizabeth (Brooks) Slaughter was living in Stewart County, Georgia.  On November 9, 1852, Martha Slaughter married Sanders Yelverton in Stewart County, Georgia.

JORDAN WILLIAMSON SLAUGHTER (2.5.2) is the son of Joel Slaughter and Elizabeth (Brooks) Slaughter.  Jordan was born on October 10, 1829 in Talbot County, Georgia.  On October 3, 1854, Jordan Slaughter married Rebecca Anderson Dority.  Rebecca was born on July 14, 1834 in Georgia and is the daughter of John Dority and Nancy (Gant) Dority.  Rebecca’s sister, Sarah Ann Dority, married Jordan Slaughter’s first cousin, William Franklin Brooks (1.3.4).  Jordan and Rebecca settled on the road leading from Lumpkin, Georgia to the Providence community where they raised their family and lived the remainder of their lives.  Jordan and Rebecca Slaughter were the parents of ten children:

Jordan Slaughter was a Confederate soldier during the Civil War.  From 1870 to 1880, Jordan and Rebecca Slaughter were living in Stewart County, Georgia.  For a number of years, he served on the Board of Education of Stewart County, Georgia.  Rebecca (Dority) Slaughter died on October 26, 1888 and was buried in the Providence Cemetery in Stewart County, Georgia.  On November 13, 1890, Jordan married a second time to Mattie E. (Williamson) Perkins.  Mattie was previously married to Abner Wesley Perkins, son of Thomas W. Perkins (2.6.8) who was Jordan Slaughter’s first cousin.  In 1900, Jordan and Mattie Slaughter were living in Stewart County, Georgia.  Jordan Slaughter died on April 25, 1907 and was buried in the Providence Cemetery in Stewart County, Georgia.  After Jordan’s death, Mattie moved to Louisiana.  Anderson Slaughter died on June 29, 1857, John Slaughter died on June 3, 1861, Joel Slaughter died on December 30, 1858, Virginia Slaughter died on September 11, 1869 and Michael Slaughter died on September 4, 1877.

ELIZABETH JORDAN SLAUGHTER (2.5.2.4) is the daughter of Jordan Williamson Slaughter and Rebecca Anderson (Dority) Slaughter.  Elizabeth was born on October 11, 1860 in Georgia.  Elizabeth Slaughter married William Albertus Cliatt of Jernigan, Alabama.  William is the son of William R. Cliatt and Louisa (Averett) Cliatt.  William and Elizabeth Cliatt had at least one daughter:

  Birdie Cliatt

Elizabeth (Slaughter) Cliatt died on February 13, 1931.  On June 19, 1901, Birdie Cliatt married Alex Smith of Madison, Florida.

SARAH EMMA SLAUGHTER (2.5.2.5) is the daughter of Jordan Williamson Slaughter and Rebecca Anderson (Dority) Slaughter.  Sarah was born on August 22, 1862 in Georgia.  On December 18, 1879, Sarah Slaughter married William Henry Newman.  William was born on September 15, 1855 in Alabama and is the son of John Daniel Newman and Patience (Cannington) Newman.  William’s brother, John Daniel Newman, Jr., married Sarah Slaughter’s sister, Georgia Rebecca Slaughter (2.5.2.8).  William and Sarah Newman were the parents of seven children:

  Ruby Newman, b. Stewart County, Georgia
  Henry A. Newman, b. Stewart County, Georgia
  Lizzie Mae Newman, b. 1891, Stewart County, Georgia

From 1880 to 1910, William and Sarah Newman were living in Stewart County, Georgia.  Sarah (Slaughter) Newman died on March 10, 1928 and William Henry Newman died on November 8, 1931.  Jay Newman married Audrey Bevan of Madison, Florida.  Jay Newman died on October 9, 1916.  Ruby Newman married Rufus Augustus Cranford of Beuna Vista, Georgia.  Rufus is the son of Joseph Cranford and Mary A. (Persons) Cranford.  Rufus’ brother, William Cranford, married Ruby Newman’s aunt, Mary Jane Slaughter (2.5.2.9).  Rufus and Ruby Cranford had three children:  -  Jay Newman Cranford,  -  Emma Ruth Cranford,  -  Rufus Cranford, Jr.  Henry Newman was resident of Alabama and served in the World War.  Lizzie Newman married J. Fred House of Stewart County, Georgia and they had one son:  -  Billie Fred House.  Audrey Newman married a Mr. Smith of Elberton and Macon, Georgia.  Robert Newman died on August 29, 1918.

GERALD E. NEWMAN (2.5.2.5.5) is the daughter of William Henry Newman and Sarah Emma (Slaughter) Newman.  Gerald was born in 1893 in Stewart County, Georgia.  Gerald Newman married Clifford Hathcock and they were the parents of two children:

  Bobbie Hathcock
  Frances Hathcock

Clifford and Gerald Hathcock lived in Stewart County, Georgia.  Frances Hathcock married Robert Baxter and they have one son.  Robert Baxter is the superintendant of the Providence Canyon State Park.  As of 1982, Frances (Hathcock) Baxter was living in Lumpkin, Georgia.

HENRY ABNER SLAUGHTER (2.5.2.6) is the son of Jordan Williamson Slaughter and Rebecca Anderson (Dority) Slaughter.  Henry was born on June 18, 1864 in Georgia.  Henry Slaughter married Alma Aycock and they were the parents of one son:

  Johnnie Will Slaughter

Henry Slaughter moved to Terrell County, Georgia and died there on January 19, 1933.

GEORGIA REBECCA SLAUGHTER (2.5.2.8) is the daughter of Jordan Williamson Slaughter and Rebecca Anderson (Dority) Slaughter.  Georgia was born on January 20, 1868 in Georgia.  Georgia Slaughter married John Daniel Newman, Jr.  John was born on May 5, 1860 and is the son of John Daniel Newman and Patience (Cannington) Newman.  John’s brother, William Henry Newman, married Georgia Slaughter’s sister, Sarah Emma Slaughter (2.5.2.5).  John and Georgia Newman moved to Terrell County, Georgia and they were the parents of six children:

  Florence Newman
  Clyde Newman
  William A. Newman
  Paul Newman
  Mary Lena Newman
  Emma Newman

John Daniel Newman, Jr. died on October 11, 1919 and Georgia (Slaughter) Newman died on October 18, 1939.  Both were buried in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Dawson, Georgia.  Florence Newman married Frank Lisle and they have one daughter:  -  Rebecca Lisle.  Florence (Newman) Lisle later married C. H. Varner of Smithville, Georgia.  Rebecca Lisle married H. B. Arnold and lives in Americus, Georgia.  H. B. Arnold is associated with Arnold Trucking Company.

Clyde Newman married Gladys Dismukes of Dawson, Georgia.  They moved to Albany, Georgia and had two sons:  -  William Newman,  -  Clyde Newman, Jr.  William Newman married Annie Boyett Gibson of Macon, Georgia.  William is an Orthopedic Surgeon in Macon, Georgia.  Paul Newman resides in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Mary Newman married J. Milligan of Boston, Georgia.  Emma Newman married Clarence Moore of North Carolina.

(Persons) Cranford.  William’s brother, Rufus Cranford, married Mary Slaughter’s niece, Ruby Newman (2.5.2.5.2).  William and Mary Jane Cranford moved to Terrell County, Georgia and they were the parents of one daughter:

  Alberta Cranford

Mary (Slaughter) Cranford died on June 27, 1937.  William J. Cranford died on March 18, 1940 and was buried in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Dawson, Georgia.  Alberta Cranford married G. B. Cook of Valdosta, Georgia.
